Northwest Metals: a live view of production and delivery risk

Northwest Metals was coordinating manufacturing work through notes on a wall, emails, CIM and Sage. Workbie connected job information to production planning, quality checks and live visibility across the factory.

THE CHALLENGE

Where the work was getting harder.

Important job details were spread across Post-it notes, email, CIM and Sage. Production teams had limited shared visibility of what was happening across the machines, and managers had to piece together progress and delivery risks from separate sources.

WHAT WORKBIE CHANGED

A process built around the team.

Workbie brought the information together into a connected operational workflow. It added compliance and quality-control checks to help prevent errors, and a Kanban view lets the team see and move work across the machines. AI helps managers assess how a machine failure or a change in job priority could affect delivery dates for other work.

Tablets at workstations give engineers access to job notes and new work where the work happens. An office wallboard shows progress against service-level targets and highlights potential problems. The workflow also automates delivery information, including metal weights and truck-specific load differences.

THE IMPACT

The practical difference.

  • Replaced wall notes and disconnected updates with shared production visibility.
  • Added quality and compliance checks into the operational workflow.
  • Helped managers understand the knock-on effect of machine downtime or reprioritised work.
  • Put current job information in front of engineers at their stations.
  • Made service-level risks and delivery information easier to see and act on.

Production, quality and delivery planning now work from a more connected view of the jobs moving through the business.
